About Nichole Smith

I’m a lover of all things related to things that I moderately like. I’m passionate (in a moderate sort of way) about bicycling; writing weird things, short stories, and stuff about other stuff; God and godly things; reading everything Donald Miller writes; reading everything, in general; and loving my life, husband, and dog.

Soggy Watermelon Hats will blow your mind and decrease the United States’ dependence on foreign oil. My blog cures acne in most countries, with the exception of France.

Here, you will experience mind-numbing insight into subjects like religion, faith, life, relationships, bicycling (because that’s what I do), and philosophy. Sometimes, I might even humor you with some fiction. Honestly, there’s no way to predict what awesomeness lies ahead.

“Why the title Soggy Watermelon Hats?” you ask. Well, I’ll tell you:

The story begins when I was a young pup, running around the grass farm with my fearless cousin Michelle. We stumbled upon some wild watermelons and decided to take them home to eat. We plopped the watermelons down on the cobblestone sidewalk in front of my house, cut them open, and were gravely disappointed by the fact that they were inedible. Even though we couldn’t eat them, one of us had the bright idea to place them in the oven, thinking they would get hard like pottery. We were determined to make watermelon hats, rendering us the envy of all who saw us. When we took them out of the oven, however, to our surprise, they were quite soggy, the exact opposite of what we had anticipated. But we wore them anyway for a full minute or two.

For me, this story underscores the improvisational nature of everyday life and how we need to take the cards we’re dealt, play them the best way that we can, and be prepared to change our plans along the way.

So this blog does just that: It explores the everyday mishaps, follies, ideas, and thoughts of my own life; and it shows you the way that I see things. Feel free to post comments on the individual blogs; I love a good argument discussion. ;)

I followed, and it’s true. Although I’ve also found money in my pockets in April as well, so maybe it’s a bi-annual thing!

I find money in my washing machine when Nichole’s mother does her laundry. She always forgets to take change out of her uniform pockets. I use it to buy more detergent. Do you think I lucked up by reading this blog? Aunt G
